Preparation for combat operations in the city

Rapid urbanization, which is a common feature for most modern states, requires special attention to military units’ preparations for combat operations in settlements. Battle in a city or town is significantly different from hostilities in the field. During its conduct, visibility and shelling are usually very limited, maneuvers are much more difficult, so the main role in such a battle belongs to the infantry.

Soldiers have to knock out the enemy not only from buildings, but, in fact, out of floors, rooms, basements and attics, so during a city combat they face a great number of obstacles and unexpected situations. In this article, we will explain how SKIFTECH technical simulators are used in urban combat’s preparations.

Laser simulators

SKIFTECH technical laser simulators are innovative training tools that allow military personnel to simulate real-life bilateral combat in a city or in a village. These simulators contribute to developing and enhancing of tactical skills without wasting any time and security of the real training ground. One of the main advantages of the simulators is the ability to learn and analyze different tactics in urban environment. Street combats require a high coordination level, interaction and quick decision-making from the military. Thanks to SKIFTECH laser simulators, the servicemen are able to train various scenarios – from the defense of buildings to counterattacks in narrow streets.

SKIFTECH laser simulators allow to conduct a realistic simulation of two-way fire contact. This provides military personnel with the opportunity to put into practice theoretical knowledge of movement tactics in urban environments, the features of masking positions and personnel, as well as the use of buildings and infrastructure as shelters or positions for firing. They also give the ability to train communication interactions and make quick and accurate responses to unpredictable situations that often arise in urban combats.

Indirect fire weapon simulators

Undoubtedly, city is a highly complicated location for military actions conductions, as the settlement’s combat quickly exhausts the personnel. Densely placed buildings impede the movement and have a negative impact on the mobility of assault units, decrease the efficiency of radio communications and complicate maneuvers, as well as restrict the effect of reconnaissance and complicate the management of units during the battle.

Restricted shelling became quite a crucial factor, because of which the special role in urban combats conductions was given to those weapons that can fire on hinged territories. One such example is AGS-17 grenade launcher, which has proven to be a simple and reliable infantry weapon. Its tactical capabilities, including when firing along the hinged trajectory, made it an indispensable means of fire support in urban battles. The SKITECH team offers a AGS-17 simulator that looks like software that works with real weapons.

Real-life examples

Generally, SKIFTECH tactical lasers and indirect simulators become an integral part of military training in urban environments. They help develop and improve tactical skills, and also adapt to the complexities and peculiarities of street fighting. In the provided videos you can see an example of such training with the SKIFTECH equipment.

For the Ukrainian military participating in the war in the east of the country, these simulators became an integral part of tactical training. Many of them share their own experiences with NATO instructors, given the complexities and peculiarities of the street battles in which they participate on a daily basis. This exchange of experience makes it possible to improve the skills of not only Ukrainian, but also foreign military who are preparing for war in an urbanized area.
